Regulation

The poultry industry in Australia is highly regulated, and therefore maintains high standards across all areas of growing, production, distribution, and consumption.

Legislation regulating the poultry industry covers a wide array of issues ranging from disease control, food health and safety and the environment, to use of chemicals, management of used chicken litter and animal welfare.

Poultry meat production is covered by a number of State and Commonwealth laws and regulations. All poultry and egg producers, whether backyard or commercial, are required to comply with the laws and regulations relevant to their business regardless of the type of production system.

All fresh and frozen raw chicken meat and virtually all further processed and cooked chicken products that are offered for sale in Australia have been produced in Australia. Our strict regulations are in place to ensure that both chickens, industry employees and consumers are kept as safe as possible.
